AI Connector (Claude & ChatGPT)
Connect Claude or ChatGPT to a DealerAI store so an AI assistant can look up inventory, read conversations, manage store information and start follow-up, using your existing portal account.
The DealerAI AI Connector lets Claude or ChatGPT work with one DealerAI store at a time. After you connect it, the assistant can look up inventory, read customer conversations, review store information and, if you approve the right permissions, make updates or start follow-up.
You sign in with the DealerAI portal account you already use. There is no separate password or setup code.
Before You Start
The connector is off by default for every store. A store administrator must turn it on before anyone can connect: Settings > Capabilities > AI Connector (MCP) > Enable AI connector.
Turning it on gives an approved assistant access to dealership data through the permissions you grant. When an assistant reads a customer conversation, that conversation, including any personal information the customer shared, is sent to Claude or ChatGPT for processing. Make sure your store is comfortable with that before enabling the connector.
One Connection, One Store
Each connection is bound to a single store. If you manage multiple rooftops and want the assistant to reach each one, add the connector once per store and choose a different store each time.
This keeps every assistant action scoped to the store you selected.
Add the Connector in Claude
In Claude, open Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector.
Enter the DealerAI MCP URL:
https://mcp.dealerai.com/mcp
Claude opens a DealerAI sign-in page. Sign in with your portal email and password.
On the approval screen, pick the store this connection should use, then review the permissions.
Read permissions are selected by default. Permissions that let the assistant change store information, create leads or start customer follow-up begin unselected.
Click Approve. Claude returns to its own window with the connector active.
Add the Connector in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Settings > Connectors > Create.
Enter the DealerAI MCP URL:
https://mcp.dealerai.com/mcp
Sign in, pick your store, review the permissions and approve.
In ChatGPT deep research, DealerAI can search across inventory and conversations, then open matching records when ChatGPT needs more detail.
Permissions
Each permission controls a group of actions. The assistant only sees the actions covered by the permissions you approved.
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| View inventory | Search and look up vehicles in stock |
| View store profile | View store details, opening hours, staff, promotions and knowledge-base entries |
| View conversations | Read customer conversations and message transcripts |
| View contacts | Look up customer contact records |
| View sequences | See the store's Reach sequences |
| View analytics | Review aggregate conversation and lead activity |
| Update store profile | Update opening hours, holidays, staff records and knowledge-base entries |
| Enroll contacts in sequences | Start Reach follow-up for a customer |
| Create leads | Create a lead that notifies staff and any connected CRM |
Write permissions can change live store information or contact real customers. Only approve them when you want the assistant to act on your behalf, not just answer questions.
Store Information and Knowledge Base
With View store profile, the assistant can read store information such as hours, staff, promotions and knowledge-base entries. This helps it answer questions like "What does the assistant know about our warranty policy?" or "Do our service hours look correct?"
With Update store profile, the assistant can update opening hours, holiday closures, staff entries and knowledge-base entries. Knowledge-base save and delete actions retrain the assistant automatically when content changes.
Seeing and Removing Connections
Settings > Connected Apps lists every assistant connected to the current store, with the permissions it was granted, who authorized it and when it was last used.
Use Disconnect to remove a connection. The assistant loses access immediately for new requests and within one access-token lifetime for anything already in progress. Reconnecting means signing in and approving permissions again.
Turning off Enable AI connector for the store cuts every connection to it at once, usually within about a minute.
Limits
Each connection can make up to 60 tool calls a minute. Each store also has a daily call budget, which is 2,000 calls by default. A platform administrator can adjust the daily budget.
If an assistant hits a limit, it receives a clear message telling it to slow down or try again later.
If Something Goes Wrong
"None of your stores have the AI connector enabled" means a store administrator needs to enable the connector under Settings > Capabilities.
The assistant says it does not have permission means the connection was approved without that permission. Disconnect it under Settings > Connected Apps, then add it again and approve the permission you need.
The assistant stopped working after it had been fine means the store may no longer have the connector enabled, the connection may have been disconnected or the store may have hit its daily call budget.
